mole: haha, that this government will be long gone without the ISA in place, think twice about going into politics, we are one of the only two countries in the world whereby they can jail a person without trial for up to 30 years.

I think that a welfare state is something we should not head into. Welfare state just creates more burden for those who are working. Instead we should look into ways where we could reduce costs where necessary and not charge people more.

Besides not having welfare for the people, we should also stop giving welfare to ministers. It is absolutely ridiculous that they are still getting pension when the system has long been gone for civilians like us.

Then we should go into policies which would protect our people instead of foreigners who are here to live off us.

benji: Thank you for your input, i am not an economist myself but i think higher housing subsidies will encourage couples to marry as they have lesser burdens to worry about.

hi there,
1) i do agree that the CPF interest rates should be adjusted, with more money required to be locked into our CPF currently (both the basic funds and our medisave), there has to be added incentive for people to throw our money into our CPF account. whats more as you have mentioned, with increased inflation, people are struggling for liquidity of their assets. By increasing our minimum fund requirement, its basically decreasing the money supply which will cause inflation to go up even more cause people are more afraid to spend.

2) HDB (aka rental flats until the govt decides to enbloc your block) and our private transportation (aka rental car for the next 10 years) are the best 2 ways to keep our average singaporean poor for the rest of his life. i dont really believe in the higher subsidy for our flats as that could cause manipulations.

HOWEVER, policies do have to be reviewed as currently there are many people who have no money to apply for HDB flats and they cannot qualify for rental flats. policies in these 2 areas do have to be tweaked before mediacorps start filming people living under void decks. another point to add is that, whats the point of higher subsidy currently when property prices in singapore (eg boon keng) are overvalued?

3) as for welfare policies, i believe that help should be given to those who are affected by cyclical unemployment and not frictional unemployment as it might cause lazy buggers to pop out such as in Australia. this might cause a heavy deficit in singapore as i commented in sovietmole's blog, the wrong people are giving birth in singapore and in 15 years time, i dont think we want to see families of 6-7 all on govt welfare and using money on cigs and booze.

i do also believe that the cut off requirement for needy families should be increased from the current $1500 to adjust for current inflation.

ps i did not quote as to how much i think each policy should be adjusted by as i shall leave all these to the economics students to decide. the above are just opinions that i would like to share as i see a big problem in the future of singapore.
